Welcome back!
The Year of the Fire Horse is galloping on — I hope you had a wonderful celebration for the Lunar New Year. For this newsletter, we revisited an old favourite: A Fatt with its Malaysian-Chinese comfort food. Also: bold contemporary art, delicate paper cuttings, a Seoul-inspired fashion pop-up, a live Oxford debate on Europe and China, special edition stamps — and celebratory Lunar New Year cocktails still being poured.

A Fatt – Malaysian-Chinese Comfort Food
On Limmatstrasse 189, a few hundred meters from Limmatplatz, A Fatt is one of my neighbourhood favourites. Especially in this cold, wet weather, it offers warm light, simple tables, and proper homestyle comfort food.
The cuisine is Malaysian-Chinese — shaped by Malay, Chinese and Indian influences. Curry, sambal and soy sauce perfectly combined. Chinese classics sit alongside Malaysian dishes, everything just a little more spicy.
A neighbourhood joint — but worth travelling across town for.
Location: Limmatstrasse 189, 8005 Zurich
Open: Tue - Fri: 5 pm - 10 pm | Sat - Sun: 11 am - 2 pm | 5 pm - 10 pm

Special Edition Stamps

Swiss Post marks the Lunar New Year 2026 with two newly issued special stamps dedicated to the Year of the Horse. On a small format, they bring together movement, symbolism and celebration.
The horse — a sign associated with energy and drive — is rendered in vivid colours and beautiful detailing. Floral elements and ornamental patterns bridge Chinese zodiac imagery with Swiss decorative traditions. The result is very festive.

Lunar New Year Festivities at Mandarin Oriental
Until 3 March, Mandarin Oriental Savoy Zurich is celebrating Lunar New Year with two special cocktails—Red Stallion and Blazing Khan—and a Shanghai pop-up featuring guest chefs from their Shanghai property.
Running alongside is a public exhibition by Swiss light artist Gerry Hofstetter. For the first time publicly, he's showing his 2025 projection at the Great Wall of China, created for the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland with UBS support. The exhibition includes light installations from the Great Wall and Temple of Heaven in Beijing, Lunar New Year–themed works for the Year of the Snake, and selected international projects—from the pyramids of Egypt to the Matterhorn.
Installations are spread throughout the building: Poststrasse shop windows, Mandarin Lounge, and Savoy Brasserie & Bar.
Open to the public. Until 3 March.
